Looking for work
Looking for work can be hard, and even more so when you have macular disease. It is difficult to know where to start and what kind of work to look for. In this section you will find several videos which will help address some of your concerns.
What kind of work can I do?
The job market is open to people with sight loss, but having macular disease will restrict the kind of work you are able to do. Some jobs will not be possible to do with sight loss. However, there is plenty of scope and with the technology available today, there are many opportunities for people with sight loss. If you have the right skills and relevant experience for a role, sight loss may be less of a barrier.
Think about the kind of things you enjoy doing or are skilled at, as this may help you identify the kind of work you can do despite having macular disease. It is best not to waste time applying for work that you are unable to do due to your macular disease, as this can be demoralising and demotivating.

You may have studied in college or at university, or worked in the past so you have skills that potential employers may want or need. Understanding how to sell yourself as a potential employee is important for anybody looking for work. This is especially so if you have sight loss, and making yourself stand out with relevant experience will help you with finding employment. One of the ways to give yourself relatable experience is through voluntary work.
