Volunteer roles
Our volunteers are at the heart of the Macular Society, helping to Beat Macular Disease. We can't do it without them.
In return for your time and generosity, we provide a great working culture. We do something worthwhile and are proud to work together to Beat Macular Disease – as recognised by our inclusion in The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2023 list.
If you're interested in volunteering, take a look at the different roles available. Once you’ve decided which volunteer position would suit you best, please complete our volunteer application form and one of the team will be in touch.
Volunteer roles
We have a variety of roles available, depending on what you would like to do and how much time you can give.
Lived Experience Advisory Panel
The LEAP will become an essential part of how the Macular Society creates and sustains services. Your voice as a panel member will help shape sustainable services, with the voice of people affected by macular disease at the heart of what we offer. Apply to be part of LEAP today.
Peer support group leaders and group volunteers
Our Support Groups run throughout the country, and make a real difference to people affected by macular disease. There are several roles within our Groups, so please get in touch if you’re interested in finding out more.
Connect by Tech volunteers
Our Connect by Tech service provides one-to-one telephone or online support to help people set up and explore everyday technology to build better connections with the world online.
Telephone befrienders
Make a real difference to people affected by macular disease by offering them a friendly listening ear by telephone.
Employment mentor volunteers
Our mentoring service provides employment advice to individuals living with macular degeneration.
Research lay panel
If you are interested in research and keen to share your views and opinions, then this role could be perfect for you. As a lay panel member, we will ask you to read lay summaries of research grant applications.
If you see yourself in any of these roles, do sign up using our registration of interest form. If these roles don't seem the best fit or if you have any questions, then we would still love to hear from you - give us a call on 01264 601 041. We may have other exciting volunteer opportunities that may be a better fit for your time and talents.
