What is the latest in potential treatments for dry AMD?

Patients with dry age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) are invited to learn more about the potential treatments at the Society's next Virtual Clinic. 

Next month's Virtual Clinic event will see consultant ophthalmologist Clare Bailey looking into ongoing research and the potential for treatments in clinical trials for dry AMD.

Currently there is no approved treatment for dry AMD, but researchers across the world are looking at a number of possibilities, from gene therapy to injections. 

Dr Bailey, who is the clinical director of the Research and Treatment unit at Bristol Eye Hospital, said her and her team were working on a number of trials they hoped would prove successful in the near future.

She said: "Our hope is that there may be a treatment for the dry type of the disease before too long but further research needs to continue to get to that point.”

The Virtual Clinic series, launched last month, aims to give you the chance to hear up to date information from ophthalmologists and leading experts and ask the questions you are not usually able to ask in a busy clinic.
